On the Journey Toward Equitable Identification
Districts across the country are on the journey toward equitable identification for gifted programming. Using the equity index rule in DESE’s Gifted Education Program Guidelines, districts can review student representation in local gifted programming to determine if minimally equitable gifted services are provided. In this session, we’ll share how our district reviewed local, historical data related to the screening, testing, and identification process, and the early steps we’ve taken on our journey to find a more equitable representation of student groups.
