The Gifted Program Rule was recently amended in a five year rule review. The amendment includes updated Gifted Education Program Guidelines. Join this session to learn more about the amendment and the new guidelines, which includes updates in alternative identification plans, focuses on equitable identification processes, and provides more guidance on evaluating your gifted program.

Districts across the country are on the journey toward equitable identification for gifted programming. Using the equity index rule in DESE’s Gifted Education Program Guidelines, districts can review student representation in local gifted programming to determine if minimally equitable gifted services are provided. In this session, we’ll share how our district reviewed local, historical data related to the screening, testing, and identification process, and the early steps we’ve taken on our journey to find a more equitable representation of student groups.
